Interact High School Youth Clubs Team With Fremont Morning Rotary

FREMONT, CA. – December 17, 2020 – The Fremont Morning Rotary Club (https://www.FremontMorningRotary.org) together with the Interact Clubs of Irvington High School and Horner Middle School in Fremont, CA, teamed up to host a virtual fundraising event, "Hearts For Cancer" on Saturday November 7th, 2020, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The main event involved student volunteers folding Origami hearts and letters of care for breast cancer patients supported by the Hope, Empowerment, Renewal, and Support Breast Cancer Foundation (hersbreastcancerfoundation.org). The Interactors chose to support HERS because this foundation has been a valuable resource since 1998 for patients recovering from breast cancer," said interactor Madison Wong, co-president of Irvington High School Interact Club. HERS purchases and provides post-surgical garments, lymphedema garments, wigs and prosthesis to recovering cancer patients no matter their financial situation. "Folding Origami hearts and writing letters of encouragement put a smile on all the student volunteers' faces" said interactor Madison Wong, co-president of Irvington High School Interact Club. "The wonderful turn out and cheerful camaraderie inspired each volunteer to contribute as many Origami hearts as possible to the final count," she added. "Fremont Morning is the sponsoring Rotary Club for both Irvington and Horner Interact clubs because it is important to foster a culture of serving others that youth can carry throughout their lives", said Jojy Michael, Fremont Morning Rotary Youth Service Director. "Our Rotary club offered to donate $1 for every heart folded, up to a maximum of $250, from our Club Foundation. Many of the club members also offered additional individual donations totaling $725 to help the students make an even larger difference," he added. We were formed and continue to build upon a merger of the Rotary Club of Warm Springs (chartered in 1988) and the Rotary Club of Fremont Sunrise (chartered in 1990). We are the only Rotary Club in southern Alameda County for those who prefer to meet before they begin their business day.
