Heights Schools, Teachers Union Move Toward New Contract

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — The Heights Schools and the Cleveland Heights Teachers Union (CHTU) reached a tentative contract agreement this week. On Tuesday, the union ratified a three-year agreement that will run through June 30,2025. The contract was approved by 92-percent of union membership, according to a statement from the schools. The Heights Board of Education will vote on approving the contract on March 15. "We are grateful to our skilled colleagues represented by the CHTU for their daily dedication to achieving our district's mission," said Board of Education President Malia Lewis. These educators have navigated many challenges and changes these last couple of years, with their commitment to their students' success remaining strong." The current contract between the school district and union was set to expire on June 30, 2022. "CHTU is very pleased that we were able to ratify both our teacher's and our monitor's contracts well in advance of the expiration on June 30," said Karen Rego, president of the union, in an email to Patch.
