BRENTWOOD, CA — A tractor was used Friday to steal an ATM from a Brentwood bank, police said.
An alarm sounded at 4:40 a.m. Friday at Wells Fargo, 2450 Sand Creek Road, and as officers responded to investigate, witnesses reported seeing a tractor remove a standalone ATM from in front of the bank, the Brentwood Police Department said.
"When officers arrived on-scene, the tractor was gone but caused significant damage to the ATM and building," police said. "Preliminary investigation revealed an unknown suspect(s) used a stolen tractor from a nearby construction site to steal the ATM."
The machine was found dumped about 100 yards west of the bank.
The suspect or suspects did not make off with any money, as the ATM vault was recovered intact, police said.
As for the stolen tractor, it was found abandoned about a half-mile away in an open field at the dead end of Sand Creek Road, west of state Highway 4, according to police.
The investigation was ongoing Friday, and police asked anyone with information to contact the Brentwood PD at 925-809-7911. Callers may remain anonymous, according to police.
