Jury Finds Vernon Man Guilty Of Felony Elder Abuse

VERNON, AL — A Vernon man charged with felony elder abuse was found guilty of the charge by a Lamar County jury this week. According to a release from District Attorney Andy Hamlin's office on Friday, Terrance Moore, 30, was arrested by officers with the Vernon Police Department after a confrontation with a 70-year-old woman on July 11, 2020. Hamlin said Moore did not know the woman and had been parked in front of her house for about half an hour that evening, before becoming angry when she walked outside to write down his license plate number. Moore then reportedly grabbed the woman's arm, causing her skin to tear and bleed. Moore went to trial on the charge Monday, with the jury finding him guilty of first-degree elderabuse on Tuesday. Hamlin said a sentencing date for Moore has not been set. Moore could face up to 10 years in prison, depending on the sentence handed down by a judge on the Class A felony.
