MILLBRAE, CA — A traffic patrol by the San Mateo County Sheriff's office on Tuesday resulted in nearly 300 citations given to area drivers, authorities said. The patrol, based in Burlingame and Millbrae, focused on traffic education and enforcement, the sheriff's office said. It involved 27 traffic officers from various law enforcement agencies in the county. Police made more than 325 stops and issued 297 citations for the following offenses: 89 citations for cell phone violations57 citations for failing to stop at a stop sign40 citations for speeding32 citations for failing to obey a posted sign19 citations for unsafe passing16 citations for driving in a bike lane14 citations for seat belt violations12 citations for failing to yield to a pedestrian8 citations for miscellaneous violations5 citations for red light violations3 citations for driving without a license2 citations for driving with a suspended licenseThis patrol was the first of several planned saturation patrols that authorities will conduct in San Mateo County this year, the sheriff's office said.
