Help Me Understand Student Loan Forgiveness

Description

I'm a white male, descended from eastern European immigrants. I paid my own way through community college by working part time, winning small scholarships ($300-$500) joining the Army Reserve and taking advantage of the tuition reimbursement programs my employers offered. Later on I went back to school and earned my BS degree while working full time on second shift. All the while providing for two children and a wife. Never once taking a dime from my parents or the government. I drove crappy cars and ate a lot of macaroni and cheese, hot dogs and skipped thousands of meals over the years. Why should I pay for the bacchanalian lifestyle that you enjoyed during your college years? You took out student loans that allowed you to live in a fantasy world for four (or more) years, and now you don't want to pay. Why? Why shouldn't you sacrifice for your success, or simply be held responsible for your choices. So what, if it takes you ten or twenty years to pay it off. Loan forgiveness doesn't mean that the debt disappears, it is just spread out to others. It means that everyone else has to absorb your irresponsibility. How can you justify that? The exception is members of our Armed Forces. They should always be considered for student loan forgiveness, if they seek it. They swear to make the ultimate sacrifice and at the very least set aside personal freedom during their time of enlistment. Grow up - stand up - clean up after yourself.
