Little Mountain Community Theatre Receives $4,000 Grant

LEMONT, IL — Little Mountain Community Theatre received a grant from the Stephen Colbert AmeriCone Dream Fund for the second year in a row. This year, the nonprofit organization was notified that it is the recipient of a $4,000 grant. "We are so honored and thrilled to receive this gracious donation!" Heather Hutchison, LMCT Artistic Director, said in a release. "LMCT is about providing theatre and performance opportunities that educate, entertain and enrich on and off stage. As we gear up for our seventh season, we are constantly reminded that we are a creative hub for so many to express themselves,take risks, explore new interests, learn, grow and have fun! Having studied theatre and improvisation in the Chicago area, Mr. Colbert is well aware of the power and importance that the arts hold in our communities, and together we can make dreams come true!" The Lemont organization was started in 2013 by dedicated residents and experienced theatre professionals, a release states. Each summer the group produces a multi-generational main stage musical and an acting workshop for children. Other offerings include a variety of programs for individuals with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. Colbert's fund was created in 2007 when Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream announced it had created a flavor to honor the comedian/satirist. According to the release, Colbert decided to donate the profits from the sale of his flavor to charity and established the fund. In order to award the grants, Colbert encourages members of his team to nominate non-profit organizations to be the recipients of the pint proceeds. LMCT said it was lucky enough to catch the eye of Dan Campbell, a member of The Late Show staff who has a connection with Hutchison. "We are so thankful that Dan nominated LMCT," Hutchison said in a release. "Using this donation to expand our reach in the community through workshops, guest artists and events with the special needs community, we will be able to spread our theatrical wings wider!"
