Description
The Patricia Roberts Harris Awards Banquet will celebrate the life and legacy of Ms. Harris and celebrate the graduating class. The George Washington University Law School Black Law Students Association (BLSA) is pleased to announce the 42nd Annual Patricia Roberts Harris Awards Banquet, which will be held on April 2, 2022. Mrs. Harris is a distinguished alumna of The George Washington University National Law Center (now The George Washington University Law School). After graduating at the top of her class in 1960, she was an active public servant, receiving many accolades and accomplishing many firsts. Among her many achievements, she was the first African American woman to serve as a United States Ambassador, the first to serve as a United States Executive Cabinet Member, and the first to be appointed Dean of an American law school (Howard University School of Law). In the spirit of her incredible achievements, this Banquet is also a time to recognize outstanding graduating BLSA students, BLSA alumni, dedicated BLSA sponsors, law school faculty and staff, and champions of diversity in the local legal community. The success and impact of this signature event is largely dependent upon the support and assistance of our community; cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with legal organizations in the District of Columbia plays a fundamental role in ensuring that students have the requisite opportunities to follow in Mrs. Harris’s path. Therefore, BLSA invites you to join us in this celebration, paying tribute to a special alumna and becoming acquainted with the diversity of our student body. Information regarding various sponsorship opportunities is provided below. We ask that you consider partnering with us to make this event a success. We hope you will join us in celebrating and honoring a truly remarkable woman and her contributions to the legal field, while also recognizing the accomplishments and hard work of our members.
