BEDFORD, NH — Sean Kenny, of Bedford, was a cast member in the Muhlenberg University production of Stephen Sodheim and James Lapin's re-envisioned version of the Brothers Grimm classic "Into the Woods" at the Pennsylvania school. Kenny played Jack in the production that ran Oct. 25 to Nov. 3. The show features a complex, vocally challenging and multilayered score with a 15-piece professional orchestra. The show centers around characters who are granted a wish early in the performance, only to learn that having their wishes granted is no guarantee of happiness. "It shows the darker consequences of people pursuing what they want no matter the cost to other people," said Beth Schachter, the show's production director. "It's a piece about people who lie a lot to get what they want and have not foreseen the results of those lies." Muhlenberg College's Theatre & Dance Department offers one of the top-rated college performance programs in the country, according to the Princeton Review rankings. It has been named annually among The Fiske Guide to Colleges' top 20 small college programs in the United States, and the American Dance Festival Association has consistently recognized dances premiered at Muhlenberg for excellence in choreography and performance.
