Description
LEMONT, IL — Lemont Park District will spread some holiday cheer to Lemont's seniors with its 'Merry Christmas Caravan.' The park district will dash through town in its caravan from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 10.
The event came about from brainstorming after the park district canceled both its senior holiday luncheon and its veterans luncheon due to the pandemic, Lauren Hanson, park district special events manager and marketing relations, told Patch.
Adults 55 and up can sign up for the event at no cost to them, and the park district staff will deliver some holiday spirit.
"We will have our park district bus decked out with Christmas lights and decorations, playing Christmas music, and they will get a holiday goody bag from us," Hanson said. There is space for 50 Lemont residents, and a contactless goody bag will be dropped off right at their door step.
If others would like to step outside or look out the window for the bus, the park district asks that space be given to drop off the goody bag first.
"We're doing our best to come up with alternative ideas and using our resources as effectively as possible," Hanson said. "We understand that not the holidays can be lonely, especially during the pandemic, and mental health is very important to a person's overall health. This is a great outlet for us to bring joy and keep spirits up."
