An exhibit, lecture, and hands-on activity focused on mapping the dynamic world of insects, arachnids, and reptiles. New World Cartographic is very excited to be teaming up with Morbid Orchid as we put together an exhibit of amazing insects, arachnids, and reptiles, display with original antique maps of the region they can be found. This event will feature an exhibit of maps and preserved specimen, all of which are available for purchase as well as a lecture and option to pin your own spider in a shadow box that you can take home and enjoy for years to come. For the lecture portion of the evening, Mason Gold of Morbid Orchid will explore the intersection of geography and biology. We will focus on questions such as; •How does geography shape evolution? •What are zoogeographic regions? •Why are beetles shiny? We will be be examining these topics and more as we look at real insect and invertebrate specimens coupled with maps of their localities. As an add-on to the experience, you can join us for a spider pinning workshop where we will learn the basics of arachnid anatomy and taxidermy. This portion is limited to 10 participants on a first come first serve basis.
