It seems like we just finished gifting turkeys and we turned the calendar page and the days are whipping by! Now we need to turn the corner to the 16th Hope and Friendship Christmas Care Bag and Dinner Delivery. COVID will not stop our Christmas Outreaches, but it will curtail the open door invite to all who want to be present.HOWEVER there are many, many non-sign up needs that HAVE to be filled to be able to make the 16th Hope and Friendship Christmas happen. Great community service opportunities to do at home for those young friends who are having trouble completing their hours. I will sign off on their time offered creating notes/cards, baking, shopping or cooking. Needs: by Dec 17th- Baked goods and uplifting notes and Christmas Cards that will become the contents for our Mission Stay Senior Care Boxes. We can't Christmas Carol this year BUT we can deliver a little love to some of our friends who are really feeling alone and depressed during this very long year. Drop off baked goods (larger quantities welcome and will be broken down by volunteers no need to do so) to the trailblazer at 721 Hickory Street by 2pm on Dec 17th or by 3pm to Hughie McClafferty's (118 Stephen St., Lemont). Drop off notes/Christmas Cards by Wed. Dec 16th to trailblazer; Starbucks, Lemont; Lemont Police Dept- bin in entryway. Great community service opportunity or group outreach opportunity!!! The thank you's from our seniors for all that we have offered to help them through this most difficult and lonely year have been truly moving. They are feeling the love from friends they may never meet but know are here in this corner of the world. by Dec. 22nd- Christmas Care Bag Items- so many of the homes we will be bringing Christmas Dinner to need the assistance of items that are easily attainable and affordable for one home but a struggle to afford in theirs. Seeking donations of any and all personal care items; cleaning products; and paper products. Everything your home needs their home needs, so when you buy a kid's personal care product, shampoo, liquid soap, toilet paper, or laundry detergent could you purchase one more and offer that to our Care Bags? Drop off donations to Starbucks, Lemont; Lemont Police Dept, in the entryway; or to the trailblazer in my drive. on Dec. 25th- 11:30-1:30pm-For the 16th year Hope and Friendship will offer the gift of a and deliver these dinners to the doors of friends throughout our fully cooked Christmas Dinner community who are struggling financially, physically and emotionally with loss and/or life-challenging illness. A team of friends will gather and deep fry turkeys.We are seeking donations of cooked side dishes, potatoes, salads, bread/butter, veggies, and desserts in 4-person serving size packages/bags, juice, and/or fruit, to accompany the delicious turkey!-Donations of food will be accepted from 11:30-1:30pm on Christmas Day to Old Quarry Middle School (16100 W. 127th St., Lemont) east side of school, there will be a contactless drop off spot inside the small gym door. I have been blessed to be a conduit of assistance and to see the glow around this town that comes from acts of compassion that unite many to meet many needs. We have united to hold so many up when life was beating them down. You have been the hope in what appeared to be hopeless situations and the light in the darkest of storms. I hope you feel the glow of the Christmas love and light that you have offered to others for the past 16 years.
