MILL VALLEY, CA — Police activity prompted a lockdown at Tamalpais High School and a shelter-in-place order issued around the Mill Valley campus Monday .
The school was placed on lockdown because "criminal(s)" were in the area, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's officials asked people within a quarter-mile of the campus at 700 Miller Ave. to shelter in place.
"Remain inside with the doors locked," officials said in an alert shortly before 3:30 p.m.
The lockdown and shelter-in-place order was lifted around 4 p.m., according to the Mill Valley Police Department.
"All students are fine and are being released as usual," police said. "Thanks very much for your patience and cooperation."
