MILL VALLEY, CA — A Mill Valley student was named among 300 scholars in the Regeneron Science Talent Search, a science and math competition for high school seniors. Rohan Sanda, 17, of Talmalpais High School, was recognized for work to find a preventative technological solution to the formation of diabetic foot ulcers. Sanda and Talmalpais High will each receive $2,000, according to the Regeneron Science Talent Search. Sanda was one of 1,993 applicants from 659 high schools across 49 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam and eight countries to the Regeneron Science Talent Search. The search is open to high school seniors submitting original research in STEM-related areas. Scholars were chosen based on their research skills, commitment to academics, innovative thinking and promise as scientists, according to the Regeneron Science Talent Search. "We are inspired by the incredible energy and passion of every scholar who is using research to make the world a better place," said Maya Ajmera, president and CEO of Society for Science & the Public, which created the search. "These young students will be the key to unlocking solutions to many of our world's most pressing challenges." On Jan. 22, 40 of the 300 scholars will be named Regeneron Science Talent Search finalists. Finalists will have the opportunity to travel for free to Washington, D.C. to compete for more than $1.8 million in awards provided by Regeneron. The Regeneron Science Talent Search is a program of Society for Science & the Public, a nonprofit dedicated to the achievement of young scientists in independent research and to public engagement in science.
