MILL VALLEY, CA — The Mill Valley School District recently appointed a new director of student services. Julie Harris, who has worked in education for more than 25 years, is slated to join the district's leadership team in her new role beginning July 1. Harris currently serves as principal of Sun Valley Elementary School in San Rafael. "Ms. Harris brings a wealth of experience to the Director of Student Services role," district officials said in an announcement. In addition to her background as a principal of two elementary schools, Harris is an administrative coach for UC Davis Principal Network, Marin County Office of Education, and Sonoma County Office of Education. "She is a sought after presenter as it relates to building systems in schools with intentionality," officials added. Harris will replace Andee Abramson, who will be retiring at the end of the school year, according to the district. In February, the district conducted a survey of staff, parents and community partners to determine the qualities prioritized for the position, according to the district. In March, prior to school closures due to the coronavirus, a panel of administrators, staff members and parents met to interview qualified candidates.
