Here are the top three stories in Buffalo today: Celebrating Eid al-Fitr isn't always possible for Muslim students in Buffalo, as the holiday typically falls during the school year. To remedy this, leaders from the Buffalo Islamic Cultural Center (ICC) are requesting Buffalo Public Schools give students the day off to celebrate Eid. The Buffalo Public School District said in a statement, "It would not require NYSED approval. Our board has the authority to develop a calendar, but it must meet NYSED requirements for days/hours of instruction in a year. Further, we have limitations on the number of holidays we can include because of restrictions in the BTF contract." (Spectrum News)Today, YMCA Buffalo Niagara's "Y on the Fly" program is partnering with FeedMore WNY to host a "Kids in the Kitchen" program. The hands-on educational event teaches Buffalo children about a food group and how to create a delicious snack. "Y on the Fly" is a mobile YMCA offering free youth programs as well as healthy meals for children and families. (Niagara Frontier Publications) A Buffalo man was indicted yesterday in the stabbing death of an 18-year-old during a burglary, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office. 20-year-old Caleb Grooms faces charges of first-degree and second-degree murder and faces a maximum life sentence in prison if convicted. Grooms allegedly stabbed 18-year-old Malcalm Davis in a Buffalo home; David died of his injuries at the scene.
