March 11, 5:00 pm Cocktail Hour- 7:00 pm CHELSEA GIRLS/QUEEN OF CHINA (HANOI HANNAH) (1966) Special Guest: Mary Woronov +TBA “Warhol Night” features an exclusive screening of CHELSEA GIRLS/QUEEN OF CHINA (HANOI HANNAH) (1966) directed by Andy Warhol from a script by Ronald Tavel (sponsored by the Andy Warhol Museum). The film is 60 minutes of the two Woronov reels only, loosely referring to the real-life radio show host who broadcast anti-war propaganda to US soldiers in Vietnam. Woronov metes out physical and psychological abuse and, by Reel 2, all falls apart as the performers begin to use their real names and exhibit a sort of residual stress disorder. With International Velvet (Susan Bottomley), Ingrid Superstar and Angelina "Pepper" Davis. Preceding the feature is Woronov’s SCREEN TEST (1966), documenting one of her first visits to the infamous Factory. After the films, Woronov will be interviewed on stage by Greg Pierce, director of film and video at The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. Mary will read from her memoir, “Swimming Underground: My Years in the Warhol Factory.” March 18, 5:00 pm Cocktail, 7:00pm ROCK N ROLL HIGH SCHOOL (1979) Special Guest: Mary Woronov +TBA The film’s storyline follows teenage delinquent P.J. Soles as Riff Randell who battles it out with Woronov’s unforgettable villainess Miss Togar, the strict new principal of Vince Lombardi High School. Directed by Alan Arkush and Joe Dante and co-starring Paul Bartel, Clint Howard, Vince Van Patten and The Ramones. Palm Springs favorite “DJ Mod Girl” Kellee McQuinn turns up the volume for a new wave dance party. Mary will be reunited with special guests TBA. Hospitality sponsor for the event is Cheetah Hotel (T&T Hotels); beverage sponsor is Helltown Whiskey. MARY WORONOV (born Dec 8, 1943) is an American actress, published author and figurative painter. She is primarily known as a "cult actress" because of her work in Andy Warhol, Paul Bartel and Roger Corman films. Woronov has appeared in over 80 movies and on stage at Lincoln Center and off-Broadway productions as well as numerous times in mainstream American TV series. She first made headlines in the early 1960s as a Factory “superstar,” via her introductory role as Hanoi Hannah in Chelsea Girls, the 1966 experimental underground film directed by Warhol. She was recently featured in the acclaimed doc, THE VELVET UNDERGROUND, speaking of her tenure dancing with Exploding Plastic Inevitable, Warhol's multimedia presentation of the Velvets. Notable appearances include 1975’s Death Race 2000 and 1979's Rock 'n' Roll High School, but her breakthrough role was in 1982’s Eating Raoul. She has since had roles in numerous films including Night of the Comet (1984), Chopping Mall and Nomads (1986), Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills (1989), Dick Tracy (1990), Where Sleeping Dogs Lie (1991), The New Women (2000), and Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003). She has written three novels (Snake, Blind Love, Niagara); a best-selling memoir (Swimming Underground: My Years in the Warhol Factory); and a coffee table book containing her artwork and stories they inspired (Wake for the Angels). As an artist, she began as a student at Cornell University, and her work has shown in galleries worldwide.
