Shelter-In-Place Order Issued, Road Closed In Groton Incident

GROTON, CT — A shelter-in-place order was issued and a road was closed Thursday morning due to a man who police believe was armed and refused to leave his home, according to Town of Groton police. Police received a call for a wellbeing check for a 26-year-old man at a Cow Hill Road home at 6:50 a.m. Police arrived and attempted to make contact with the man, who was reported to be despondent and believed to be armed. The man initially refused to leave the home. Police secured a perimeter around the house and issued a shelter-in-place order. Cow Hill Road was also closed to through traffic and detours were established. Police spoke with the man and he later agreed to exit the home peacefully at about 7:20 a.m. He was transported by ambulance to a medical facility for evaluation. The shelter-in-place order was lifted and Cow Hill Road was reopened to traffic at about 8:15 a.m. No criminal charges have been filed, according to police.
