PUYALLUP, WA — A man is in the hospital and fighting for his life after an accident in Puyallup early Thursday morning. According to a news release from the Puyallup Police Department, the 60-year-old man had been walking in the 2200 block of North Meridian street, near the South Hill Mall, when he stepped into the southbound lane of traffic and was hit by a driver. Officers were called to the scene and provided medical attention until medics with Central Pierce Fire and Rescue could attend to the man. He was then taken to a Tacoma hospital, and is reportedly in critical condition. Officers say the driver who hit the man remained on scene and has cooperated with their investigation. One lane of Meridian had to be closed while officers investigated, causing some backups through the area. The road has since been reopened.
