Description

HAYMARKET, VA — One student sold a knife to another student at Ronald Reagan Middle School in Haymarket last week, police said. Authorities said the sale occurred during a class. The parents of a 13-year-old student found a knife while their son was at school on Friday. They called the school's resource officer, who began an investigation. Authorities determined that a 12-year-old boy sold the knife to the 13-year-old boy on Thursday. When school security brought the 12-year-old to their office on Friday, they found another knife in his possession. The school resource officer said that the students did not display the knives at the school. After the investigation, the officer tried to obtain petitions to charge the two students. On Monday, Prince William County Juvenile Court Services said the matter resulted in "informal actions," without charges. They told the school resource officer that the matter would be handled through their diversion process. Neither of the boys were publicly identified due to Virginia laws protecting the privacy and identities of children. Have a story idea?
