STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — Police arrested a Spotsylvania man on Wednesday, three days after he ran away from a traffic stop, police said. The Stafford County Sheriff's Office identified the man as Brian Brandrup. During their investigation, deputies learned that Brandrup had outstanding warrants in three areas. Most of the outstanding warrants were for failure to appear in court, police said. The original traffic stop began around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday. A Stafford County deputy said they saw Brandrup drive through a stop sign near Centreport Parkway and Chestnut Hill Drive. The traffic stop started well, the sheriff's office said in a report. Brandrup gave the deputy his license and said he wasn't paying attention. When the deputy returned to his patrol car, Brandrup started to run. The deputy didn't chase him because there were other people in Brandrup's vehicle. "The driver suddenly became an Olympic sprinter and scampered into the wood line," the sheriff's office said. "Besides one stumble in a ditch, he showed excellent form." Deputies identified the driver as Brandrup and learned that he had eight outstanding warrants. The sheriff's office used drones and K-9 units to search for Brandrup, but they were unable to find him. On Wednesday morning, deputies found him at a home on Ramoth Church Road. They took him into custody and charged him with obstruction and the traffic violation. Brandrup is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail. Have a story idea?
