SAN RAFAEL, CA — San Rafael is getting into the composting business.
The North Bay city on Tuesday announced that businesses who sign up for a Marin composting service are eligible for composting bins valued up to $600.
The free bins are being offered by the city in partnership with Marin Sanitary Service.
The move aims to help local businesses comply with a new state law.
SB 1383 requires all businesses, regardless of weekly solid waste output, to sign up for composting services.
Businesses that fail comply with face fines in 2024.
San Rafael businesses with fewer than 50 employees that are now non-compliant with mandatory composting laws but are in the process of signing up for composting services through Marin Sanitary Service are eligible for the free bins, city officials said.
