Description
If I kept real still
I might be able to hear your heart
Through the cacophony of sweaty bodies slamming against each other
on the dance floor inside
just beyond the threshold
where a few minutes ago
this guy came stumbling across…
I hugged you harder and pulled you closer, slid your body over the plastic seating of the bench.
If I could be really still, you would fall asleep, resting the left side of your head against my sternum. Were you awake when she came over and asked about you.
Did you hear me say, “I like her.” Because, it would have been weird for you to hear in your drunk slumber or half sleep,
“I love her.” She didn’t seem surprised. She sat behind me and gave me a hug so that I could hug you with four arms.
