Description

Collecting and illustrating botanical specimens in winter/spring, in the drawing studio of the historic Plastic Club. 12 students max. Workshop Fee: $10 (includes all materials) Maximum enrollment: 12 Instructor: Carla Stine Botanical illustration with graphite pencils is a great way to capture nature in its winter state. Just as winter presents a starker and more limited color palette, working with graphite offers a way to highlight this quality, leading to tightly-rendered drawings of specimens that lie serenely dormant or dried up. Join Plastic Club member Carla Stine as she leads a two-hour workshop covering an introduction to collecting botanical specimens in winter and illustrating them with graphite pencils. Leave with the knowledge and resources to embark on your own exploration of small-scale natural specimens, as well as a deeper appreciation of the mystery, beauty, and allure of winter. Class size will be limited to ensure appropriate social distancing. This workshop is open to non-members. A list of supplies will be emailed to registrants. The Plastic Club requires proof of vaccination and face coverings indoors. For details, see the club's Mask/Vaccine Policy. *Remember to set your clocks to Daylight Saving Time.* Location: The Plastic Club 2nd Floor Studio (Note: There is no elevator. Access by stairs only.) Minors must be supervised. What to bring: Leaves or other small plant parts (we will also have them on hand). We will supply drawing paper and graphite pencils in three grades: H/HB, 2B and 4B as well as erasers and sharpeners, but you are welcome to bring your own preferred materials. $10 cash or check (made out to "The Plastic Club"). Nearby art supply stores: Artist and Craftsman Supply (307 Market St.). Plastic Club members receive a 10% discount. Blick’s Art Materials at 1330 Chestnut Street is a short walk from the club.
