Man Faces Multiple Charges In Amherst Pursuit Ending In Nashua

AMHERST, NH — Amherst Police Chief Mark Reams has identified Mark R. Cavanaugh, 51, of Nashua as the driver who led Amherst police officers on a pursuit through Amherst, Merrimack, and Nashua. The chase began on 101A when police saw a vehicle operating in an erratic manner and was being stopped by Amherst police. After an Amherst officer activated his blue lights and siren, the vehicle sped off. The original incident is described here When the vehicle was blocked by two Amherst cruisers at Hayward's ice cream in Nashua, Cavanaugh was removed from the car and taken into custody. Cavanaugh faces one count each of conduct after an accident, resisting arrest, disobeying a police officer, and reckless operation. Future charges may be forthcoming, according to Reams. The suspect was issued court summonses and released pending the completion of the investigation. Nashua units had been notified of the pursuit but were not actively involved. They assisted at the scene when the vehicle was stopped by Amherst Police.
