DEER PARK, IL — The Lake Zurich Fire Department rescued a woman from a frozen pond in Deer Park on Thursday, according to a release from the department. The woman had gone out onto the ice in a retention pond behind a residence to rescue her sons, the release says. Crews arrived at the 21000 block of N. Inglenook Court soon before 6 p.m. to find two boys saying their mother was in the pond and couldn't get out. She was about 50 feet from the shore, clinging to the edge of the ice. The release says the boys were rescuing their family dog when they fell through the ice. Then, the mother rescued the boys, only to fall through the ice herself. The father also attempted to save the mother, but was unable to, the release says. A rescue swimmer with the fire department went out onto the ice and saved the mother. Everybody, including the dog, ended up safe. Paramedics assess the mother, two sons and father. Two of them were brought to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in North Barrington in stable condition. The Long Grove Fire Department assisted in the rescue. The Lake Zurich Fire Department is warning the public to always be aware of potentially thin ice, especially during milder winter weather conditions.
