UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man spray-painted antisemitic graffiti onto a string of parked cars on the Upper East Side, according to police, who asked for help finding the suspect. The spree began around 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 16, when the man approached a car parked on East 69th Street and Fifth Avenue. It lasted about an hour and spanned multiple blocks, as the man ultimately vandalized seven different cars with antisemitic messages, according to police. Police released surveillance footage showing the suspect, described as a man with short dark hair, a thin build and a light complexion. He was last seen wearing a green, hooded snorkel jacket, a brown hooded sweatshirt and black jeans. The NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the incident. Last week, Patch reported that more than 50 antisemitic hate crimes had been committed in New York City within the past month, according to NYPD data — a fivefold increase in crimes targeting Jewish people compared to the same period last year.
