Description
Get ready for this baby to smother you with endless love! She is very affectionate and one of the most loving dogs out there. When she gets pets, she gets all snuggly rubbing her head against your leg, and she looks at you with her tender eyes. Come night time, when she realizes that she is drifting into a deep sleep, she slowly gets up from wherever she is snoozing (eyes barely open and can barely carry her head) and she comes to say good night to everybody. As soon as she gets some physical contact from everyone, she moves onto her bed. It is as if she is thinking of ways to be cute all day. She knows "sit", "lie down", "come", "go away", and "wait" commands. She is easily motivated by food and your approval. She tries really hard to do what is right and she is willing to learn more. She also has a good call back if she is in an off-leash setting or somewhere else in the house. If you don't feel like uttering any command, open your arms and she'll quickly wiggle her way to you. This girl is very respectful to the rules of the house and she is not destructive. She does not get on the furniture. She does not jump on counters or tables (even when there is food). She leaves the house plants and basically anything besides her toys alone. She successfully avoids touching anything when zooming around in narrow spaces. She does not try to scratch or chew on anything that is not her own. Even with her toys, she is so gentle that she needs a lot of encouragement before she bites on her squeaky toy. She has not destroyed or damaged anything including her toys. She is crate trained and will get in with a tiny bit of bribery but she is much happier roaming freely in the house. She has been left alone at home for long hours, and all she did was patiently wait. She will happily take on the role to protect your home when you are gone but she'll stay quite if you put on some music. Basically, she will do whatever you want her to do at home. This baby is not very hyper and she spends most of her day lying around on her bed or near you. When she is really bored, she can zoom around and play with her toys a little bit but she won't force you to join her. When playing with you, she doesn't get mouthy and she never nibbles. She enjoys going for short or long walks, or short runs but she won't complain if she stays in for the day. She is very polite on the leash and happy to comply with wherever and how fast you want to go. If there is a puddle of water or mud on the ground, she tries really hard to avoid it and she tries to keep herself clean. She has a beautiful blond coat and very characteristic floppy ears. Whenever she is relaxed, ears fall back; and whenever she is carefully listening to something, her strong ear muscles pulls her ears all the way to the front, making them almost touch each other. She also has a very expressive face. It is fun to see her face show a wide range of emotions. She is also in a great health condition and she lets you trim her nails without too much protest. This sweet girl came from a shelter near the Mexican border. When she was first brought to Austin, she was very nervous and scared around other people and animals. We have made a great deal of progress and she is now doing extremely well with people. She kindly says hello to approaching strangers outside or visitors at home. She is very happy to meet new people. Even though she gets very excited, she never jumps on people and she just lets her wiggly body entice them into giving her lots of pets. If she is feeling shy, she'll excitedly come ask her human for permission to interact with them. She also does very well at the vet's office and makes everyone fall in love with her with her sweet behavior. She was not observed around kids for long periods of time but she has been sweet to small kids petting her in the park. Her previous shelter also said that she was good around her kids. She has also made some progress on her fear towards other animals. She was getting along well with the other lab-mix dog in her foster home and she was giving her a lot of kisses. She also walks well with other dogs in a friends' group. She may still get nervous around some strange dogs; she may sometimes freeze, sometimes try to run away from them and be very close to you, and sometimes try to scare other dogs away. If her future home intends to take this baby to a lot of different places, then they will need to continue our work and give her some more time to socialize with other dogs. She is housetrained and knows very well where to go to the bathroom; however, there are times when she can take a long time to go to the bathroom outside. So patient walkers or a home with easy access to a fenced yard might be ideal for her. This sweet girl would make an amazing family dog.
