Description

Hello, I am looking for an experience licensed HVAC contractor or technician who may be retired or doing small jobs on the side to replace my existing HVAC system in my 2 bedroom home. The existing system has a failed compressor. It is a Mini split multi zone system consisting of an exterior heat pump connected to two small interior fan coils installed in the attic creating two zones. It was installed about nine years ago by the previous owner. It would not have been my first choice, but it is what is here and in order to save money I have decided to replace it with the exact same system which I have ordered on line along with new line sets and control wiring. I contacted the manufacturer and was told their service life is only about 9-10 years on average. So all three components will need replacing. I did have one company come out to service the unit and told them I thought the compressor had failed. They insisted it was okay and went ahead and charged the system with about $400.00 of R410 refrigerant, then decided it needed a new control board, another $648.00. At the end of it all, the compressor would not engage. They walked away out the money, and I was without any heat at that point for nearly three weeks. Then I had a another company come out, and test the compressor. It was in fact failed. Their quote to install a new gas/electric system was too high, partially because my electrical panel had no space to add a dedicated circuit for a new furnace and would add another $5500 to the price. So I then decided to replace the whole system with the same system and re-use all the existing ductwork etc. I have attempted to hire at least two other contractors from here on Craigslist who are no shows. One guy who uses "veteran family owned" in his title has stood me up twice. I am desperate as I am near 70 years old and dealing with health issues. I now have lived with no heat for nearly 7 weeks while I have wasted time with different contractors of poor work ethics or are asking over $20K for a new gas/electric system. My home is only 838 s.f. I thought this amount to be excessive at best. I hope there is someone out there who is looking for a small project, that can show up when they say, and is not looking to empty my bank account.
