MARTINEZ, CA — The body of a transient was found Sunday night just south of Highway 4 between the Center Street and Alhambra Avenue exits in Martinez, and police do not suspect foul play. Martinez police Sgt. Gerardo Espinoza said a call came in at about 8 p.m. Sunday from someone who believed his friend, a transient, had died near the John Muir Inn and the entrance of a railroad tunnel nearby. Police, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crew, an ambulance crew and Contra Costa Sheriff's deputies all responded, and the man was pronounced dead.
