SR Maintenance Specialists (Crew Leaders) Excavation and Water Distribution Groups Water Management: Water & Sewer Maintenance Division B238: Hiring Range - $46,103.00 - $51,874.00 The City of Durham has vacancies for three (3) crew leaders; 1 working in Excavation and 2 in Distribution System Maintenance within the Water & Sewer Maintenance Division of Water Management. Professionalism when communicating with others using problem-solving skills to work closely with all staff and when interacting with Durham citizens. You are expected to monitor staff’s performance related to work objectives and effectiveness, conduct performance evaluations, document, record, and manage operational data related to work performance and production. If in Excavation, reporting to crew chief, this role leads a 5-person skilled and semi-skilled heavy equipment team that responds to emergencies involving the maintenance and repair of the City’s underground water distribution or wastewater collection system infrastructure. If in Distribution System Maintenance, reporting to crew chief, this role is the lead of 2-person team that repairs and maintains valves and fire hydrants within the water system. As an “essential” worker, this job requires week-long rotations of Stand-by/Recall Duty (SBRD) which means overtime and call back for emergencies which can occur outside of normal business hours and during all types of weather. You can expect to cross-train in the various workgroups within Water & Sewer Maintenance (listed below) in order to serve SBRD: • Meter Services: Installs and repairs residential water meters and registers. Diagnose and repair small leaks, replace meter boxes, and setters, test and repair large meters • Outfall: Clears easements and assists with manhole repairs and inspections also respond to sanitary sewer system overflows • Collection Systems: Assists with closed-circuit television inspections, flush truck operations, and sanitary sewer overflow response Minimum Qualifications & Experience: • HS diploma or equivalent • 1 year of additional technical training related to the assignment • NC A-CDL • Minimum 4 years’ experience within the water industry *if Excavation, experience with heavy equipment operation • Competency using software and tablets for record-keeping and communications Additional Preferred Skills & Certifications • 1+ years of supervisory experience in a field position leading a crew • OSHA Competent Person, Confined Space Entry, & Trenching/Shoring certifications or obtained within 1 year of hire • NC Grade C, B, or A Water Distribution • NC Grade I, II, III, or IV Wastewater Collections Enjoy our benefits that include 401(K), (457), retirement, flex spending accounts, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short/long term disability, & generous annual/holiday leave.
