Description

This Birth Options class discusses options for birth attendants and settings, and how to get the best quality care during pregnancy. This FREE class is intended for individuals/couples in early pregnancy and those considering getting pregnant, though birthing people at any stage of pregnancy are welcome!. We will discuss the concept of evidence-based care during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period, and we will review the variety of options families have for care during the perinatal period in the Portland area. Specifically, we discuss different types of maternity providers (OBs, family physicians, midwives, and naturopaths), settings where you can give birth (hospital, birth center, home), and community resources for the perinatal period (e.g., childbirth education, doulas, support groups, etc.). We also review effective communication strategies for the client-provider relationship that will support you in getting the quality care you deserve. The class is taught by Nicole Werner, a PhD level child psychologist, childbirth educator, doula, and current midwifery student working in Portland.
