LAS VEGAS, NV — Five people died in a fire at an apartment building in Las Vegas Saturday morning, according to authorities. The two-alarm fire also injured several others, officials reported. Twenty-three people have been displaced from the Alpine Motel Apartments because of the blaze, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue. Crews were dispatched at 4:13 a.m. to the building in the 200 block of North 9th Street, officials said. When they arrived, firefighters said they saw smoke showing from a three-story apartment complex, where several people were hanging from second-floor windows and others had jumped. Multiple rescues were required, officials said. Initially, officials said four were dead and seven were injured, including five in critical condition. They later updated the numbers at 8 a.m., reporting five people had died, 13 were injured and 23 were displaced.
