Description

First Amendment Auditors & Tactical Communication We invite safety and security teams of local houses of worship to attend our next Irvine Police Department Interfaith Security Partnership meeting on Thursday, March 31st from 11am - 1pm. Members of the Irvine Police Department's Threat Management Unit will provide training on the following topics: 1. First Amendment Auditors 2. Tactical Communication First Amendment Auditors have become more prevalent over the last several years. Without a clear understanding of the purpose behind an audit, staff and worshipers may experience unnecessary fear and anxiety when engaging an auditor. Our training will provide attendees with important information about how to identify First Amendment Auditors, we will help build your knowledge about the legalities of conducting an audit, and we will offer useful strategies centered on how and when to engage a First Amendment Auditor. The second half of training will focus on tactical communication. We recognize that the majority of issues handled by house of worship security teams can and should be solved through the use of communication tactics. Our instructor is a 10 year veteran of the Irvine Police SWAT Crisis Negotiation team. He will provide insight into how to effectively use active listening skills and communication strategies as a means of deescalating confrontational people. Our meeting will take place in Fellowship Hall at the University United Methodist Church located at 18422 Culver Drive Irvine, CA 92612. A map of the facility is located below. The staff at University United Methodist Church has graciously agreed to provide box lunches for all attendees. We look forward to a great event. If you have any questions, please email Threat Mitigation Officer Rick Gramer at [email protected]. Thank you.
