PORT ST. LUCIE, FL — A 14-year-old girl from West Gate K-8 School in Port St. Lucie was arrested after police say she made a "kill list" with eight students on it, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office. The girl was arrested and charged with eight counts of written threats to kill and was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice. Police received a tip from school faculty Tuesday that she had compiled a list on eight minors on her phone that she had labeled as a "kill list," Chief Deputy Brian Hester said. No weapons were found in a search of the teen's house, but police found "deplorable conditions" as well as cocaine and drug paraphernalia, authorities said. The girl's mother, Brooke Lynn Hinkle, was arrested and accused of child neglect and possessing cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Hinkle, 40, was booked into St. Lucie County Jail on Wednesday and is being held on $6,250 bond, according to jail records. "We are committed to providing a safe learning environment for our children and continue to work diligently with St. Lucie Public Schools to do so," Hester said. "It is also imperative for parents to provide a safe home environment for their children and to talk to their children about the dangers of written and verbal threats in school settings as well as the consequences of their actions."
