WILMINGTON, DE — A man convicted of fire-bombing and vandalizing a Delaware Planned Parenthood facility was sentenced to just over two years in prison Thursday, according to an announcement by David Weiss, U.S. attorney for the District of Delaware. Samuel Gulick, 20, of Middletown, will serve 26 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for his role in attacking a Planned Parenthood facility in Newark. The sentence will include a structured mental-health treatment plan in a controlled environment, according to a Department of Justice Release. Shortly after 2:15 a.m. on Jan. 3, 2020, Gulick drove to the Planned Parenthood facility in Newark, according to statements made in open court. Video surveillance captured Gulick standing on the building's front porch and spray-painting the phrase "Deus Vult" — Latin for "God Wills" — in red letters, officials said. Gulick then stepped off the front porch, lit a Molotov cocktail, and threw it at the building before running away, according to the release. The fire burned for about one minute before self-extinguishing. The building suffered damage to the porch and the front window, officials said. Gulick was arrested the next day, officials said.
