EAST HAMPTON, NY — An East Hampton man was arrested and charged with felony driving while intoxicated recently — he was convicted on DWI charges twice before within 10 years, police said.
According to East Hampton Town Police, Francisco X. Gomez-Berrezueta, 38, was arrested on March 3 at 6:43 p.m. Gomez-Berrezueta was driving a black 2016 Honda east on Oakview Highway near Oak Square and was seen driving at an "excessively low speed," and failing to signal a right turn, police said.
Upon investigation, the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was found on Gomez-Berrezueta's breath, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy and his speech was slurred, police said. Inside the vehicle, on the rear passenger side floor, were three opened and three unopened Corona beer bottles in plain view, police said.
When asked to exit the vehicle, Gomez-Berrezueta was unsteady on his feet and performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests administered, police said.
He was arrested and charged with felony DWI, with two prior convictions, both in 2020, police said.
