HANSON, MA — A Hanson home caught fire Wednesday night, causing a family to be displaced due to heavy smoke damage, Hanson Fire Chief Jerome Thompson said. Fire crews responded to a reported fire at 66 High Street just after 7:45 p.m. to find heavy flames in an enclosed area under the rear porch of the home, Thompson said. Everyone inside the home was able to get out before firefighters arrived. One person was evaluated by paramedics for a minor injury, but no other injuries were reported, Thompson said. Fire crews were able to quickly knock down the fire, but the area under the porch suffered heavy fire damage, and the home was deemed uninhabitable due to the amount of smoke damage. The American Red Cross is assisting two adults and three children who lived in the home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Hanson Fire Department.
