Join us for a live screening followed by a Q&A with award-winning French film director, Aïssa Maïga. "Above Water" ("Marcher sur l'eau") details the life of 12-year-old Houlaye, who travels several kilometers each day to fetch water until her village unites to construct a well. This fundamentally could change the lives of a group of people who have literally been walking on water since birth. Event open to the public and registration is mandatory. You must show proof of registration at the door to enter the night of the event. If you can no longer attend the event, please cancel your order to open spaces back up for others. We expect it to be a full house! Screening followed by Q&A with director Aïssa Maïga, moderated by Stéphanie Boulard. The Q&A will be recorded and shared on our website. Location: Historic Academy of Medicine - 875 W Peachtree St NW, Atlanta, GA 30309 Aïssa Maïga is a Senegal-born French actress, director, writer, and producer. Aïssa Maïga has worked with major auteurs like Michael Haneke, Abderrahmane Sissako and Michel Gondry, and recently starred in Chiwetel Ejiofor’s directorial debut. She has won or been nominated for a number of prestigious prizes, including a Best Newcomer César (French Oscar) nomination in 2007 for Bamako (The Court) (2006) and the Best Actress Prize in 2009 at the Bastia Film Festival for Black and White (2008) by Italian director Cristina Comencini. This event is cosponsored by The School of Modern Languages and SLS program at Georgia Institute of Technology, The French Consulate in Atlanta, Villa Albertine, Unifrance. The Global Media Festival is the Georgia Tech School of Modern Languages’ annual film and discussion series focusing on sustainability across languages and cultures. Attendees are welcome to join the conversation with international film directors, educators, and partners on what it means to design and engage in innovation initiatives that address social needs.
