'The Wall That Heals': Vietnam War Memorial Bound For Franklin

FRANKLIN, WI — The Wall That Heals, a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, is coming to Franklin in June, according to the city's website. Patch reported the city was discussing a contract on possibly bringing the wall to town in December of 2021. The city now says on its website that the replica is indeed coming from June 29-July 3. The memorial is a slightly scaled-down replica of the one in Washington. It travels alongside an education center. The wall will be free and open to the public to view for 24 hours per day when it is in town, according to the city's website. It will be displayed at Franklin High School, 8222 South 51st Street. The wall will be around for much of the city's independence day celebration, so transportation between the high school and Lions Legend Park to view the wall will be provided, according to the city's website. "Bringing TWTH to Franklin is an honor and provides an opportunity for the souls enshrined on the Memorial to exist once more among family and friends in the peace and comfort of familiar surroundings," the city says on its website. "It is a unique patriotic memorial that must be treated with reverence." The city is looking for volunteer ambassadors to help out when the wall comes to Franklin. It says a team of volunteers is required to facilitate the wall's operations. Those interested in being a volunteer ambassador can apply through a form available on the city's website. The Wall That Heals stands 7.5 feet tall at its highest point. It is 375 feet long.
