JOPPA, MD — Police said a Joppa man has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run crash that injured a state trooper Thursday morning in Harford County. Lawrence Barnes, 68, of Joppa, was charged with leaving the scene after a crash, officials said. He had been driving a GMC Sierra pickup truck after 9 a.m. when police said Barnes hit a trooper on southbound MD 152/Mountain Road, south of Interstate 95 in Joppa. The trooper had been inspecting a commercial vehicle and was standing on the shoulder of Route 152 on the driver's side of the vehicle when she was hit, according to police. A trooper who had been assisting the officer witnessed the crash and found the driver about 0.5 mile away, between MD 7 and US 40. He stopped Barnes and arrested him for leaving the scene of a crash involving an injury. Police said the trooper was taken by medevac to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Her condition was not immediately available.
