Press release from the City of Iowa City: March 8, 2022 At 3:26 p.m. March 8, 2022, Iowa City Police responded to the 100 block of S. Westminster St. for a report of an armed subject. Deputies from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office and members of the Johnson County Emergency Response Team, who were training in the area, also responded. When officers arrived on scene, it was determined the subject - an adult man - was alone in the residence and had fired a gun from inside. The man surrendered without incident and no injuries were reported. Traffic was shut down during the incident and surrounding residences were evacuated. Normal traffic has resumed in the area.
