Here are the top five stories in Sacramento today: Lao Family Community Development is one of five resettlement agencies in the Sacramento region tasked with helping Ukrainian refugees when they arrive. Chao Rothberg says staff members set refugees up at apartments, help them obtain required documentation and even assist in school enrollment and career development. When the time comes, Rothberg says the agency will be ready to help. That is also the message from Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg. "If the Ukrainian people need Sacramento to be a place of refuge for people fleeing the war, we'll welcome them with open arms," Steinberg said. (KION) Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento is asking for help in finding the thieves who broke into one of their local job sites, taking off with thousands of dollars worth of building material. The incident happened Wednesday morning at Habitat for Humanity's "Mandolin Estates" project in the Sacramento area. A total of $6,300 worth of building material was stolen by the suspects, Habitat for Humanity says. (CBS Sacramento)A jury has convicted Phillip Lee Wilson of raping and killing Robin Brooks in her Sacramento-area apartment, 40 years after her death. The Sacramento County jury returned the verdict one day after initially deadlocking on the charges. Investigators said genetic genealogy using DNA from blood and semen at the crime scene was used to identify Wilson as a suspect. (ABC10)A group of Russian-born immigrants in the Sacramento area are making their voices heard in opposition to their home county. They are a grassroots movement called, "The Voices of Russian Opposition in Sacramento." Several members of the movement recently met up to create posters for an upcoming rally they are organizing in Sacramento. It is scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Circle of Lights at The Riverfront Promenade. "We stand with Ukraine with all our hearts," Iana Trotsiuk, one of the members said. "We are against war and true Russians are against war. We stand for peace." (KCRA3)The city of Sacramento has $1 million to spend and the city council is turning to its residents for ideas on how to allocate it. The pilot program is called "participatory budgeting."
