Langhorne Middle School Student Positive For Coronavirus

LANGHORNE, PA — A student who attended a Langhorne middle school last week has tested positive for the coronavirus. Andy Sokol, principal of Maple Point Middle School, at 2250 Langhorne Yardley Rd., said in a letter to parents over the weekend that the student received a presumptive positive COVID-19 test result Friday evening. "The virus was most likely contracted outside of the school environment," Sokol wrote. "The student was asymptomatic but did attend school last week Monday through Thursday." Part of the Neshaminy School District, Maple Point has begun the school year remotely like most other area schools, but students were attending orientation in person last week. The case is the Neshaminy School District's third positive coronavirus result and the second at Maple Point. After being notified by the student's parents, school officials notified the district and began gathering information on close contacts with the student. Families of students believed to have been in close contact with the sick student have been notified, or will be soon. The student did not take a school bus, Sokol said. The Bucks County Department of Health also was notified, he said, and will be doing contact tracing in the case. "If you do not receive communication, you or your child(ren) did not have close contact with the student while at Maple Point," Sokol wrote. "I ask the Maple Point community to remember that personal health information is private and sensitive. Again, the quick and full disclosure by parents regarding this incident should be applauded." Neshaminy plans to begin a hybrid in-person schooling model beginning the first week of October.
