Manhattan Beach Chooses Hou de Sousa Art Piece For City Hall

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — New York studio Hou de Sousa's "Chromatic" art piece is on its way to Manhattan Beach City Hall, literally and figuratively. Chosen from amongst some 90 applicants, "Chromatic" awaits another review by City Council before its final installation plans are put in place. "Chromatic" will take up a wall inside City Hall in the public foyer areas on the first and second floors. The piece is part of the city's Art in Public Places program and paid for with funds from the city's Public Arts Trust Fund, which is funded by a 1% tax on all commercial construction projects totaling over $500,000 in Manhattan Beach. "We will begin working with Hou de Sousa this week," said Eilen Stewart, cultural arts acting manager, "to finalize a design and bring it to Council for final approval in the upcoming months." Council selected "Chromatic" at its August 18th meeting. Hou de Sousa has an impressively long list of awards, installations and press.
