FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA — Wawa plans to break ground Tuesday in Falls Township on its first-ever drive-through store.
The ceremony is set for 11 a.m. at the store's future location, at the intersection of 549 West Trenton Rd. at the intersection with Pine Grove Road. Company officials hope the store will be open by the end of the year.
There will be remarks from officials, followed by a menu unveiling and a traditional groundbreaking. Wawa will distribute bagged lunches to healthcare workers and first responders and present two checks, for $1,000 each, to St. Francis Cabrini Church and Mary's Cupboard, who both run food banks.
Wawa officials say the new store design is part the company's efforts to experiment with alternatives to its traditional store models.
"We are hoping to learn from the layout, workflow and traffic flow at this location," Terri Micklin, Wawa's director of construction, said when the store was first announced in July. "We continue to explore alternatives for longer term application to our stores post-COVID-19."
The drive-through will focus on fresh food as well as typical convenience store items. Curbside pickup service also will be available, the company said. A similar Wawa currently is under construction in Westhampton, N.J.
