No Injuries After Cop's Gun Discharges During Orland Park Arrest

ORLAND PARK, IL — No one was injured after a police officer accidentally discharged his firearm while placing a man under arrest, Orland Park officials said Tuesday. Police arrested a man who was out on bond in prior criminal charges after officers said he was found with a loaded firearm in his car. Tuesday evening, Orland Park police were responding to a call from a resident regarding a 'suspicious vehicle' at Orland Square Mall. While officers were looking at the car, police said they saw a handgun on the floor of the driver's side. While waiting, officers said a man and two others got into the car. Police approached and placed the man, later identified as Lamar Lillard, into custody due to the firearm being within his reach inside the vehicle. While the arrest was happening, a spokeswoman for the village said an officer's gun went off and hit Lillard's car. No officers or passengers were injured from the shot. Lillard, 22, was found to not have a FOID Card or Concealed Carry License. The Momence man was out on a $100,000 bond after being arrested in Kankakee last month on charges including unlawful sale of a stolen firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. On Wednesday, Lillard was taken to Bridgeview Courthouse and issued a bond of $25,000.
