LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange saw a lower rate of increase in coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 1,297 virus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 8 percent from the week before. This is lower than the two previous weeks' increases of 13 percent and 10 percent, respectively. Since early October, La Grange's cases have increased 166 percent. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in La Grange stayed the same in the last week at 22. The latest deaths were Dec. 5 and Dec. 1. All the local deaths have been those who were 68 or older, according to the medical examiner. The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.7 percent. Of the entire population of La Grange and La Grange Highlands, 6.8 percent have been infected with the coronavirus. About a tenth of 1 percent of the population have died from the virus.
