100 New Coronavirus Cases In La Grange: County

LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange is seeing a lower rate of increase in coronavirus cases, but still experiencing about 100 more cases weekly, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had a total of 1,397 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 100 from a week earlier. The three previous weeks saw increases of 99, 135 and 100 coronavirus cases, according to health department numbers. Since early October, La Grange's cases have increased by nearly three times. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the number of coronavirus-related deaths increased by two in the last week, for a total of 24. The latest deaths were Dec. 15 and Dec. 17. All the local deaths have been those who were 62 or older, according to the medical examiner. The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.7 percent. Of the entire population of La Grange and La Grange Highlands, 7.3 percent have been infected with the coronavirus. About a tenth of 1 percent of the population have died from the virus. As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 900,370, up 5.8 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 15,202 state residents.
