JOLIET, IL — Last week, Joliet Patch broke the news that the human bones discovered in the woods on Feb. 23 along the 700 block of Patterson Road were not those of 50-year-old missing Crest Hill Pizzas by Marchelloni employee Wendy Gessing.
Gessing vanished from Crest Hill last June 12. Her vehicle was found on Joliet's Buell Avenue.
On Thursday, the Will County Coroner's Office of Laurie Summers revealed that the University of Illinois Anthropology Department determined that the bones from Patterson Road belong to a Black woman, approximately 30 to 50 years old.
The woman was between 5-foot and 5-foot-8.
Further examination of the skeletal remains will be conducted by the Anthropology Department, Summers noted.
"Again, anyone with a missing family member is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency to provide a DNA sample," the coroner announced.
